Glic begins work with Stòras Uibhist to create a strategy for the future

Vision 2030 will set a clear path for the estate and communities on South Uist, Eriskay, and much of Benbecula.

Keep an eye on this page for updates, or get in touch to discuss the project.

Stòras Uibhist has appointed Glic as third-party development consultants on the creation of its five-year strategic vision, to ensure that the whole community is heard and the strategy is ambitious yet actionable.

Stòras Uibhist was established to promote the islands’ economic, social and natural development. Vision 2030 will evidence what the community wants the estate to look like in the near future, and what Stòras needs to do to deliver it.

Using early engagement with members and desk-based analysis to understand the estate’s current position, the Glic team has developed an idea of what the Vision could look like.

Now, it needs input from you and the whole community.

We’re hosting open community consultations in late November 2024, where residents can contribute their voice to the estate’s future:

Wednesday 27 November: St Mary’s, Benbecula, 5 – 8pm

Thursday 28 November: Eriskay Hall, 10:30am – 2pm

Thursday 28 November: Southend Community Hall, 5 – 8:30pm

Friday 29 November: Stoneybridge Hall, 6 – 9pm

The drop-in events will give people across the estate the opportunity to talk through their priorities and concerns.

Note: an event was to be held at Grogarry Lodge. This has been moved to Stoneybridge Hall, details above.

A major element of this project is making sure that what guides Stòras Uibhist over the next five years is fully reflective of what the community wants to see in their islands. That isn’t possible without your contribution.

We hope to hear from as many people living on the estate as possible through these sessions. This is your chance to have your perspective and aspirations reflected in how Stòras Uibhist operates over the next five years.

From a few minutes of conversation, your views will be incorporated in the Vision and ultimately what your estate looks like in 2030.

What happens after that? We’ll consolidate all community feedback with desk-based research to produce a ‘longlist’ of early-development proposals for Vision 2030. You’ll then be invited to cast your votes on the presented proposals, to create the final strategic plan and Stòras Uibhist’s direction for the future.

About Stòras Uibhist

In 2006, residents of South Uist were successful in Scotland’s biggest community land buyout to date, with Stòras Uibhist established to purchase and manage the Estate (comprising Eriskay, South Uist and parts of Benbecula).

Stòras Uibhist still manages day-to-day responsibilities and the planning and implementation of small- and large-scale development projects on the estate.

Its parent company Sealladh na Beinne Mòire comprises Stòras Uibhist; the asset-owning South Uist Estates Ltd., South Uist Renewable Energy (Loch Carnan Wind Farm), and Lochboisdale Development Ltd.

8 November 2024

All dates, times and locations have been confirmed for our open community sessions at the end of November. We’re looking forward to hearing your thoughts (over sandwiches, cake and coffee!) – please see the top of this page for details, and tell your friends.

24 October 2024

What are your top priorities for Vision 2030? We want to hear from residents on the estate, to inform what is presented at community events in November. There will be opportunities for in-person discussions at the end of November for those with issues in internet access.

EDIT: this survey is now closed.
