Project
Argyll & Bute Food and Drink Strategy
Scope
To develop a strategy for the £500m food and drink sector
Timescale
Jan - Apr 2022; Nov – Jan 2023
The sector employs 10% of the working population and is home to approximately 3400 enterprises that operate directly and indirectly in the sector.
Glic was appointed to develop a Food and Drink strategy that enhances food security, ensures that public sector procurement supports local producers, and maximises the benefits of the growing food tourism sector.
What Glic did
Glic conducted primary and secondary research. This included collaboration with national bodies, over 50 interviews, and review of legislation and case studies.
We established baseline metrics and costs of required capital and revenue expenditure, and estimated gross benefits substantiated by evidence of similar interventions.
The final £16.7m strategy identified eight priority areas and recommended 59 initiatives that would deliver long-term benefits including £16.2m turnover, 160FTE jobs, £4.5m of earnings and £8.8m GVA per annum.
